Review your childrens’ textbooks so that you know what they are learning in School. Reinforce what children are learning in School by having them to teach you their newly learned skills. Praise their efforts-not just their accomplishment. Stress positive values of caring, loyalty, trust, honesty, respect and responsibility. Use newspapers as “family” textbooks; use the world, national and sports news to discuss current affairs.

Make a deal, limit watching T.V. then spend some of this time watching programmes with your child. Pose questions about and discuss channels you choose to watch. Show that you are interested in your childrens’ lives by asking about the School, their teachers, friends and listening to what they tell you. Give your child undivided attention. Remember that you can’t compensate for your absence with gifts.

Being there for your child all the time is the best gift you can give him/her. Visit the School and get to know your children’s teachers and Principal. Plan your family activities to facilitate your children’s studies particularly during their exam time.
